Laser permanent makeup removal — what to expect

Permanent makeup on the brows, lips or eyeliner sometimes stops matching what we want. Laser permanent makeup removal is a way to fade or remove the pigment. Here is how it goes and what is honest to expect.

Why permanent makeup gets removed

The most common reasons are:

  • the shape or colour no longer suits you;
  • the pigment has faded, changed shade or drifted over the years;
  • the makeup was applied unevenly or was not what you wanted;
  • you want to prepare the skin for new, better-placed makeup.

How the Pico laser works

Permanent makeup pigment sits in the skin, and the body cannot clear it on its own. A Pico laser sends extremely short pulses of light that break the pigment into fine particles. Over time the body clears them naturally, and the makeup gradually fades.

It is not instant: after each session the skin recovers while the body works on clearing the broken-up pigment.

How many sessions

One session is rarely enough. Usually several are needed, spaced a few weeks apart. The exact number cannot be predicted in advance. It depends on:

  • pigment colour: some tones fade more readily than others;
  • depth and age of the makeup: deeper or older pigment behaves differently;
  • the area: brows, lips and eyeliner each respond differently;
  • your skin and how it responds.

Some pigments, especially warm and older cosmetic tones, can behave unpredictably and sometimes change shade during treatment. For this reason we do not promise a specific number of sessions or complete removal, and we give a realistic estimate after assessing the area.

Sensation and price

The sensation is often described as the snap of a rubber band or a light sting. A session is short. Laser permanent makeup removal costs 50 euro.

Aftercare

  • Protect the area from the sun and use sunscreen.
  • Do not scratch or pick crusts.
  • Keep the skin clean and moisturised with gentle products.
  • Avoid saunas, swimming and makeup on the treated area in the first days.

Why the consultation comes first

Every procedure at our studio, except facial cleansing, starts with a consultation. At it we look at the makeup and your skin, discuss the goal (full removal, or fading ahead of new makeup) and set realistic expectations. Results are individual and we give no guarantees.
